Job Description

Curator of Collections and Exhibits:  Join the team preparing for a new national museum, the U.S. Marshals Museum, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Excellent opportunity for experienced curator to continue the development, research, and organization of collection and to work hand-in-hand with the exhibit designers.   Requires strong background in collections management, experience in exhibit development, and strong ability to build professional and community relationships.

Primary tasks include:

  • Primary researcher and historian for the Museum
  • Primary liaison for the exhibit design company the Museum is working with
  • Collections care and management, including design of new collections storage facility
  • Exhibit research and control of historical accuracy
  • Collections development in concert with Collections Committee
  • Member of museum’s senior management team, working to support strategic direction of the museum
  • Community outreach and partnership development
  • Growing supervisory role

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Museum Studies or related field
  • Minimum of five years curatorial experience in a museum setting- history preferred
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Minimum of five years experience managing collections
  • Prior experience with exhibit design
  • Prior experience with Past Perfect or other collections management software
