The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago seeks a full-time Coordinator: School, Teacher, Family, and Youth Programs to apply knowledge and experience of the visual arts and education, as well as an awareness of creative practices and culture to assist and produce MCA school, teacher, family, and youth programs. The Coordinator will assist in the development of programs and take the lead in the production of school tours, Family Days, teacher tours and workshops, and other educational activities. S/he will work in partnership with the Polk Bros. Associate Director of Education: School, Teacher, Family, and Youth Programs as well as the two programmers in this team to identify and ensure the professionalization of all programs in keeping with MCA best practices. The Coordinator will ensure the smooth organization and operation of all school programs within the museum. Duties include overseeing the school tour registration, scheduling, and greeting process. The Coordinator is also essential to the smooth functioning of the MCA studios which are used as classrooms, rental spaces, or for special events.

Requirements:

·         Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in fine art, art history, art education, or related humanities field. Master of Arts in fine art or art history preferred.

·         A minimum of one-year experience in a museum, education or curatorial position, or equivalent experience required.

·         Demonstrated writing, editing, and verbal skills required.

·         Knowledge of art history, the contemporary art world, and museum education required.

·         Demonstrated experience producing programs and special events required.

·         Customer service, including sales or service experience, preferred.

·         Candidate must possess some knowledge of historic, modern and contemporary art, and visual culture, as well as a strong interest in museological and educational theories and practices, and an understanding of museum audiences.

·         Must possess excellent organizational, event, and project management skills.

·         Candidate must be able to organize their own work–including goal setting, problem solving, and time management–while meeting deadlines simultaneously advancing multiple projects.

·         The ability to work well with a diverse range of people within the museum and with external partners and groups, including educators, youth, artists, curators,  technology vendors, and other contractors, is required.

·         They must have excellent independent judgment and diplomatic skills when balancing the needs of various stakeholders.

·         The position requires good judgment, customer service and hospitality skills, excellent phone manners and public speaking skills, and a professional presence that generates trust from visitors and other stakeholders.

·         They must demonstrate comfort with digital technologies and equipment and the ability to use evolving technology platforms for content delivery and database management is required.

·         Must be able to operate general office equipment and telephones. Some light lifting of hospitality and office supplies.

·         Mobility throughout the building required. Must be able to see works of visual art.
