Education Manager/Director JOB DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a dynamic and professional team­member to work in a collaborative and creative office to oversee, execute, and expand the Wassaic Project’s education programming. This position has previously managed our summer and school­year education programs, field trips, teen internship program, and maintained education­based community partnerships. In the next few years, we expect to continue to grow our education programming under the leadership of the Education Manager/Director. Title will be determined by experience. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional educator and manager with extensive experience in arts education and contemporary art. This is a year­round position, based in Wassaic, NY. Wassaic is located 2 hours north of New York City off the Wassaic stop on Metro North’s Harlem line. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until September 3rd.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: ­ Curate, manage, and promote Art Nest, a free, drop­in making space for kids of all ages. Currently this space is summer­only but will move to year­round in 2016. ­ Oversee summer programs including Art Scouts, Teen Printmaking Camp, Adult Printmaking Workshop, Camp Wassaic, Artist Talks, and education programs at the Wassaic Project Summer Festival. See wassaicproject.org/education for program details. ­ Oversee school­year partnership programs including Wassaic X Webutuck, a program which brings artists in residents into the local public high school art classes to lead contemporary art practice; After School Clubs in conjunction with the North East Community Center; and workshops with other local public and private schools. ­ Organize and lead field trips to Wassaic. ­ Manage a team of interns, including a teen internship program, which runs during the summer and fall season, and an intern career development program. ­ Manage the education budget. ­ Work with Development on grant writing and grant reporting for education programs. ­ Foster partnerships with community organizations, schools, and educators. ­ Participate in wider dialogues in arts education through conferences and by building and maintaining Wassaic X Webutuck curriculum website, a platform for sharing project plans.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: ­ Bachelor’s Degree required, MA or MFA with concentration in contemporary art or arts education preferred. ­ 1+ years teaching experience in a classroom or museum setting ­ 1+ years administration experience including project management and experience with public programming ­ Fluency in Google Docs, wordpress, and basic HTML ­ Curriculum­development experience a major plus

REPORTING STRUCTURE: Education Director reports to the Co­Directors and works collaboratively with other staff members.

COMPENSATION / WORK HOURS: Start date: October 1, 2015 October­April Work expectation: ­ 25 hours / week, three days / week in Wassaic with potential to shift to full­time. May ­ September in WASSAIC: Work expectation: ­ 5 full days / week in Wassaic, weekend work days required ­ availability and attendance at all public events including weekends and evenings Compensation: ­ $20,000 / year payrolled on contract ­ housing in Wassaic provided ­ private summer office/studio provided Health Insurance is not offered. Reimbursement for the cost of a private plan negotiable up to 10% of yearly salary.

The buildings that the project occupies, a converted grain elevator turned exhibition space, and an auction barn turned studio and workshop, are unique and historic.
