Special Exhibition Visitor Assistant

The ICA seeks Special Exhibition Visitor Assistants, who will work as key members of an education-oriented, visitor-centered education staff; practice public speaking and audience engagement skills; and engage with artwork and public safeguarding practices. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the visitors’ experience of ICA exhibitions, including a historic new exhibition at the ICA, the first comprehensive U.S. museum exhibition on Black Mountain College, Leap Before You Look: Black Mountain College 1933-1957. Featured artists will include Anni and Josef Albers, John Cage, Robert Rauschenberg, Buckminster Fuller, Ruth Asawa, as well as many others. Together with the ICA’s Visitor Assistants, the Special Exhibition Visitor Assistant is responsible for monitoring the gallery spaces and protecting the art while engaging with the public to answer questions and provide information about the exhibits and the ICA. This is a temporary position beginning on or around Oct. 5, 2015 and ending on or around Jan 24, 2016.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma, or Equivalent Experience, required. Experience working in a fast-paced environment required. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays required. Experience in a security-related position preferred. Customer service experience preferred. Ability to assert oneself when needed in order to enforce policies and protect artwork. Ability to use good judgment and to respond in handling crowds and waiting lines while remaining calm and presenting a professional demeanor. Experience with or knowledge of contemporary visual art preferred. Ability to stand for long periods of time and generally mobility throughout the building required.  Ability to adhere to dress code policies. The Special Exhibition Visitor Assistant will work a set schedule during weekdays, weekends, and Thursday and Friday evenings, as well as some holiday hours.
