Title: Volunteer Manager
Classification: Non-exempt, 80% FTE (32 hours/week) with employee benefits
Reports to: Executive Director

Position Summary:
Responsible for recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, managing, and celebrating the Museum¹s volunteer staff. Work as an active team member in training and evaluating our volunteer staff. Partner with all departments to identify volunteer and intern opportunities.

Specific Responsibilities:

Program Development & Maintenance
Provide leadership to volunteers in supporting the goals and objectives of the Museum
Recruit volunteers from the community by posting flyers, emailing faculty and community leaders, and speaking at public events, etc.
Identify departmental volunteer staffing needs then screen, interview, and refer volunteer candidates to various departments
Communicate policies, procedures, standards of service and general information to all volunteers, including processing all new volunteers and orienting them to these policies
Build intern program structure and oversee recruitment, orientation and placement of interns.
Work with staff supervisor to evaluate interns
Lead volunteer training program, maintain volunteer manual
Schedule volunteer shifts and/or coordinate with other staff to schedule volunteer time
Monitor and evaluate volunteer performance
Maintain volunteer records and generate reports
Develop and implement recognition events and engaging learning opportunities for our volunteers
Highlight specific volunteer achievement with feature articles in the Museum publications/social media, the website and in the local newspapers
Maintain our volunteer website with current volunteer listings
Serve as liaison between volunteers and Museum staff
Participate in Museum public programs (e.g. managing volunteers) when appropriate
Develop working relationships with community and/or corporate volunteer programs
Work as part of the Museum supervisory team to ensure successful operations at Museum

Program Administration

Develop job descriptions for each volunteer position
Provide data for annual reports, budget, and grant proposals when necessary
Operate the volunteer program within the approved operating budget

General
Collaborate with all Museum staff to achieve overall Museum objectives.
Represent the Museum in a professional, positive manner
Other related duties, as needed

Essential Requirements:
Bachelor¹s degree or equivalent experience
Experience organizing and working with volunteers
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a wide range of individuals and groups
Strong organizational and leadership skills, with proven track record as an effective team member
Demonstrated experience in organizing meetings and trainings
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to speak in public and organize presentations
Ability to work in collaboration and on team projects
Strong enthusiasm and interest in natural history
Available to work weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays
MS Office skills (experience with Volgistics software a plus)
Bilingual fluency a plus

Work Environment:
Standard office environment with occasional work throughout the Museum and outdoors
Significant telephone and computer work (repetitive movement ­ typing)
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and climbing stairs with occasional lifting of light loads (10 lbs.)
