Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Museum Studies

The appointment will be full time and on UCL Grade 8 or 9. The salary range will be Grade 8: QR  227,215 – QR 271,133: Grade 9: QR 296,180 – QR 323,560 per annum paid locally in Qatari Riyals + generous package, exclusive of London Allowance.

UCL Qatar wishes to appoint a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Museum Studies at its campus in Doha, Qatar, to undertake internationally excellent research and develop and deliver practice-based and theory-informed teaching in the field of museum studies.

The Gulf region and the state of Qatar are investing in high profile museums and galleries, whilst developing an agenda of regionally focussed museums and heritage institutions. In this context, there is an increasing need for critical and creative museum professionals equipped with the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to effectively contribute to the development and innovation of the museum and cultural sectors in the Gulf region and internationally. To further developing its successful MA in Museum and Gallery Practice UCL Qatar is now seeking to appoint a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Museum Studies.

The post-holder will also contribute to UCL Qatar’s public engagement programme and to short course teaching (continuing professional development and public courses).

The successful candidate will join a highly collegial Museum and Gallery Practice team and will be required to work closely with colleagues in the department and in the wider museum sector, particularly at Qatar Museums.

This position is funded until 31 st December 2017 in the first instance.

Job Requirements

Applicants will have demonstrable experience of developing, delivering, and co-ordinating teaching at MA level in the area of museum and gallery theory and practice or any other relevant postgraduate programmes, as well as experience of dissertation and research supervision at MA/PhD level. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate knowledge of museum studies and practice-based experience in museums, galleries or other relevant institutions.

To be appointed at grade 9 the applicant should have a track record of high quality publications equivalent to the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) profile 3* or 4*, experience of teaching on relevant Master’s programmes, particularly Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies and Cultural Heritage Management, and experience of taking part in programme and course development.
