The Rockport Art Association, located in the seaside village of Rockport, MA, is seeking a graduate intern to act as a collections intern under the supervision of the Museum Curator and Executive Director. The collections intern will be tasked to work with a 300 piece art collection and over 200 pieces of unaccessioned works of art. POSITION: Graduate Collections Intern REPORTS TO: Curator and Executive Director of the RAA BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION: To offer an interested college student the opportunity to work in a professional art organization. To gain experience working with artwork of varying mediums and build knowledge of collection database processing. This will be a rewarding experience for students who are interested in continuing on as a collection specialist, curator or registrar. DUTIES: The collections intern will work with the RAA curator and members of the RAA Museum Collection Committee in the capacity as collections assistant. The intern will help with works of art in storage and artwork being prepared for exhibitions. This includes handling works of art, performing condition reports, photographing the artwork and hanging or storing works of art. The intern will assist with cataloging and updating the database for the RAA’s Museum Collection of works of art. QUALIFICATIONS: Detailed-orientated, strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, interest in museums, art, and preservation, excellent time management skills, organized, and positive outlook, and research skills. A strong computer background is required. Some knowledge of art handling and collection nomenclature is preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Climbing stairs and heavy lifting.
