Exhibit Developer

Position Overview:
The MIT Museum seeks an exhibit developer experienced in dynamic environments that interpret art and science with an emphasis on interactive experiences and the interpretation of collections. The Exhibit Developer is responsible for supporting the development of museum exhibits through exhibit research, content and experience development for new exhibits. The responsibilities include collaborating effectively with the Director of Galleries and Exhibitions, curators, designers and teams on developing new exhibitions for the museum. The Exhibit Developer conducts content research, leads visitor studies and exhibit evaluation, develops exhibit experiences, is responsible for writing and editing, and works to ensure that exhibit projects successfully present the specific topic and its educational goals. The Exhibit Developer is also responsible for project management, logistics coordination and documentation on assigned projects.

The Exhibit Developer will have specific interest and knowledge in one or more areas of knowledge that relate to the science and research at MIT.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Research educational, scientific and technological content for exhibits. Develop and document exhibit experience concepts and their operation. Advocate for educational and visitor experience goals as represented through design. Write and edit exhibit copy. Assist with exhibit prototyping and conduct evaluation. Develop project reports and other communication materials. Research exhibit resources and assist with development of exhibit ideas and programs. Research, track and manage artifacts as needed. Develop scripts and work closely with multimedia producers. Ensure that exhibits are experientially engaging and scientifically accurate. Conduct photo research and other visual media asset acquisition. Project manage logistics and communication with internal teams and outside vendors as assigned. Meet project budgets and schedules. Other Tasks: Support a collaborative project environment. Remain informed of current trends in science museums and the informal science education field broadly. Provide development support for other projects as assigned. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Supervision Received:
Report to, and work pro-actively and collaboratively with the Director of Galleries and Exhibitions.

Supervision Exercised:
No direct reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of interns or students.

Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
BA/BS (MA/MS preferred) degree in science, math, engineering, science education, social sciences or a field related to informal teaching and learning.

Experience & Qualifications:
A minimum of 3+ years of experience developing museum exhibitions, preferably in interactive science or art environments. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. A willingness and ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with science researchers and non-specialists. Excellent research and organizational skills; candidates must be detail oriented, self-motivated, conscientious, thorough, task-focused and able to manage and track multiple demands in a fast-paced environment. Excellent, technical proficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel, PPT and Google docs. Specific science content knowledge with respect to one or more of the following scientific/technological fields is preferred: mathematics, physics, engineering, architecture, computer or life sciences.
