Job Description

Nauticus is a one-of-a-kind campus on the Downtown Norfolk waterfront consisting of a maritime-focused museum, an historic battleship, Virginia’s only cruise ship terminal, and a community sailing program.  The Nauticus Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is currently seeking a Controller.
The Controller is the financial manager of the Nauticus Foundation acting as the “Chief Business Officer” to the Executive Director, responsible for focusing on business enterprises, maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting, ensuring acceptable levels of internal controls and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and safeguarding assets. The position is responsible for short and long term planning and the daily operations of Accounting. Develops and recommends the department’s budget and objectives and manages within those approved plans.

The Controller will report directly to the Executive Director and provide quarterly updates to the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities

•  Establishes, coordinates and administers all financial systems
•  Facilitates Annual Business Planning/Budget Process
•  Prepares Monthly and Annual Financial Statements including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash

Flow

•  Manages Treasury Function
•  Prepares relevant operational analysis including forecasts, revenue analyses, project proformas, ROI, Capital

plans
•  Consolidates the City and Foundation financial transactions for a complete report on the financial health of the

organization
•  Sets up and monitors internal controls
•  Coordinates with internal and external auditors

Experiential Background

•  Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Accounting/Finance
•  Previous experience in nonprofit organization preferred
•  Strong ability to partner with operations to achieve financial goals
•  Strong aptitude in financial management, financial reports, and analysis
•  Experienced in recruiting, supervising, training, and motivating managers with a track record of leading and

inspiring teams to meet or exceed performance expectations
•  Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point
Education

•  Required Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting
