Job Description

The Maine State Museum in Augusta, Maine seeks to hire a Curator of Historical Collections (Museum Specialist III). This is professional curatorial work in the museum’s History Division. This curator is specifically responsible for history collections such as domestic use items, toys, tools, transportation items, personal possessions, paper and photo archives, industrial, military, technological, and recreational objects housed and/or exhibited in the Maine State Museum, Maine State House, and Blaine House. Responsibilities include the development and enhancement of the museum’s permanent historical collections through acquisition, deaccession, conservation, and proper storage; the provision of curatorial research and content development for history-related exhibits; and administrative duties related to committee meetings, policy review, space planning, public presentations, grant-writing and generally representing the museum as required.
