Marketing and Communications Manager

Position Summary
Reporting to the Deputy Director for External Affairs, the Marketing and Communications Manager at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is a key member of the organization’s external affairs and operational teams. The successful candidate will implement all efforts to position and market the institution, with the goal of maintaining and increasing awareness, audience engagement, and earned contributed income.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
• Develops and executes an annual marketing plan (including exhibition and program focused marketing strategies) in support of the mission and work of deCordova;
• Establishes clear policies, procedures, and timelines to field and manage the marketing needs of departments, programs, and the institution overall;
• Coordinates all media relations:o Coordinates media priorities and pitches with emphasis on Sculpture Park projects, Museum exhibitions, and programs;
o Works with key staff to gather and prepare press materials (writes base press releases and selects images to support exhibitions, programs, announcements);
o Fields and directs all media requests;o Manages relationships with press contacts at local, regional, and national outlets;
o Pitches reviews, listings, stories, and consistent coverage to share deCordova’s messages and generate awareness and traffic;
• Maintains visual identity by overseeing all design projects (collateral, website, advertisements, etc.):
o Maintains and edits message, voice, and style of all text and logo materials,
o Reviews, approves, and shepherds design and printing of major collateral projects including exhibition announcements, seasonal calendar, program brochures, advertisements, etc.;
o Maintains calendars for signage, advertisements, collateral, and web content;
• Serves as first point of contact with vendors and negotiates contracts (printers, mail houses, designers, and advertising representatives);
• Serves as web and e-communication content manager to create, execute, and edit content in keeping with institutional messaging:
o Partners with Head of Information Technology and Electronic Communications on non-technical/content oversight of deCordova’s website;
o Pulls content for and builds weekly eNews, individual program announcements, Membership updates, annual Benefit digital collateral, and other eBlasts;
o Maintains institutional Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and social media presence;
• Coordinates strategic partnerships including media sponsorships, corporate partnerships, organizations/attractions, and vendors;
• Participates in industry organizations as able and represents institution (GBCVB, Merrimack Valley CVB, NEMA, BAMA, etc.)
• Assists in the planning and execution of deCordova events and programs;• Prepares, executes, and monitors Marketing and PR budgets;
• Manages Marketing and PR volunteers and interns;
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in marketing or related field to include 1 year of experience managing public relations
• Excellent oral and written communication, project management, organizational, and customer/client service skills
• Previous experience working in non-profit marketing preferred
• Interest in contemporary art
• Ability to collaborate with both outside vendors and internal staff to achieve marketing, communications and public relations goals
• Experience in content management systems (Drupal preferred), email marketing services, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, MS Office Suite, and Mailchimp, as well as Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
• Strong work ethic, flexibility in a fast-paced environment required
