Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, an accredited museum and a National Historic Landmark on Biscayne Bay in Miami, FL, seeks a full-time Director of Museum Facilities (known internally as Deputy Director for Facilities), a member of the museum’s senior management team. The Director of Museum Facilities will plan and oversee all capital and facilities maintenance initiatives, directly supervising the Capital Projects Manager, Historic Facilities Chief/Maintenance Supervisor, and the Capital Projects Analyst and indirectly supervising other maintenance section personnel. Capital projects at the 100-year-old, 50-acre site include ongoing restoration of Vizcaya’s main house, gardens, grounds, and the Vizcaya village, including oversight of the museum’s bond-funded capital program with approximately $20 million available.

The Director of Museum Facilities will oversee updates and implementation of the master plan for the entire Vizcaya site, and collaborate with other staff members and governance volunteers to plan, prioritize and sequence capital improvements. The Director of Museum Facilities will also prepare and update Vizcaya’s capital budget, ensure monitoring systems for capital projects are maintained, and prepare reports and make related presentations as required. In addition, the Director of Museum Facilities will plan and provide direct oversight of Vizcaya’s facilities maintenance operations, coordinating all facility repairs, custodial maintenance and logistical support. In this capacity, the Director of Museum Facilities will play a leadership role in Vizcaya’s Preservation and Maintenance Task Force, bringing together staff from capital projects, maintenance, horticulture, curatorial, and conservation functions to plan ongoing initiatives.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Historic Preservation, Engineering, Architectural History, or related degree. Four years of management of capital projects and facilities maintenance are required.  Additional experience, including that at a historic site and/or museum, is highly preferred. Excellent management and communication skills are preferred.
