Mt. Cuba Center seeks an enthusiastic Visitor Experience Manager who will provide excellent leadership in support of the Visitor Experience Team. Mt. Description:

The Visitor Experience Manager oversees the day to day operations of the Visitor Experience Department including visitor orientation and ticketing, general admission, guided tours, group sales, season passes, retail sales, visitor programming and special events. The Visitor Experience Manager provides department leadership through direct supervision of the front-line Visitor Experience staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the day to day operations of the Visitor Experience Department, ensuring smooth operation of visitor programs.
  • Leads by example and works with staff to ensure a welcoming environment and excellent experience for Mt. Cuba Center’s visitors from arrival to departure.
  • Ensures department protocols are followed, develops and revises policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Communicates with other departments to coordinate program support.
  • Prepares and distributes Visitor Experience weekly memo.
  • Processes department revenues and daily cash reconciliation in compliance with MCC financial procedures; prepares deposits and financial reports.
  • Works with the Director of Visitor Experience & Facilities to assess and improve department procedures, visitor amenities and services.
  • Supervises the Visitor Experience Coordinator, Visitor Experience Supervisor, Visitor Experience Assistants, Docents and VE Ambassador Volunteers.
  • Hires, trains, schedules, coaches and evaluates the performance of direct reports.
  • Provides initial and ongoing training for Visitor Experience Staff.
  • Ensures adequate staffing for visitor programs; prepares daily staff schedules for General Admission days; administers Sign Up Genius scheduling program.
  • Oversees and schedules contracted Security personnel.
  • Collaborates with Visitor Programs Coordinator to ensure effective delivery of interpretive content.
  • Plans and executes special events at Mt. Cuba Center.
  • Purchases supplies for Visitor Experience department and assists the Director of Visitor Experience & Facilities in preparing and monitoring the department budget; practices fiscal responsibility.

Education, Skills, Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Hospitality, Horticulture or related field is required.
  • A minimum of two years supervisory experience in a hospitality/visitor experience/guest services capacity is required.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required.
  • Experience working with complex ticketing systems is highly desired
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the staff and the public are essential to this role.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills and abilities.
  • Broad horticultural or ecology knowledge and practical work experience in a public garden or tourism/hospitality setting preferred.
