Schedule: 40 hours/week

Mt. Cuba Center seeks an enthusiastic Visitor Programs Coordinator who will provide excellent skills and services in support of the Visitor Experience Team. Mt. Cuba Center is a botanical garden that inspires an appreciation of the beauty and value of native plants and a commitment to protect the habitats that sustain them.
Description:
The Visitor Programs Coordinator develops and implements personal and non-personal interpretive content at Mt. Cuba Center with the goal of inspiring visitors and motivating conservation action.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements personal and non-personal interpretive content at Mt. Cuba Center with the goal of inspiring visitors and motivating conservation action, including, but not limited to:
- Guided and self-guided tours
- Interpretive signage
- Staff training materials
- Interpretive planning
- Resources for home gardeners
- Discovery stations
- Second Saturday programming
- Special event programming
- Formal presentations
- Looks to the field of conservation psychology for insight into how to best convert visitors into engaged stakeholders and motivated conservators of our natural world.
- Engages Docents and Visitor Experience Assistants, and the Visitor Experience Manager in program development as appropriate.
- Purchases, develops, and maintains interpretive supplies, displays and props and assists the Director of Visitor Experience & Facilities in preparing and monitoring the department budget; practices fiscal responsibility.
- Collaborates with the Visitor Experience Manager to train frontline staff in the effective delivery of interpretive content.
- Develops formal and informal evaluation methodologies for measuring the effectiveness of Mt. Cuba Center’s interpretation efforts; actively seeks feedback to improve products.
- Supports the Visitor Experience Manager in special event planning & execution.
- Act as a backup Supervisor on Duty for the Visitor Experience Manager.
Education, Skills, Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Interpretation, Environmental Education, Plant Sciences or a related field.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience developing original interpretive content is required, preferably in a public garden, museum or related cultural institution.
- Ability to work flexible schedule including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
- Communicates with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism with others
- Desire to collaborate enthusiastically and work well in a team environment is essential.
- Highly organized with the ability to work independently while managing multiple complex projects with attention to detail and timeliness
- Excellent written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suites is preferred
- Broad horticultural knowledge required; knowledge of plants native to the Eastern United States strongly preferred
- Certified Interpretive Guide training preferred.
