Maine Historical Society (MHS) seeks a responsible, collaborative Facilities Manager to oversee and manage the operations of the buildings and grounds of the Maine Historical Society to ensure the preservation and maintenance of our collections and the safety and comfort of our staff and visitors. Founded in 1822, MHS is a statewide cultural organization located in the heart of downtown Portland, Maine. The MHS campus includes the Wadsworth-Longfellow House (1786) & Garden, Library (1907), Museum, Museum Store, lecture halls, parking lots, and offices, as well as an offsite storage facility. Respect for the care of a historic site and museum and library collections is essential. This position requires 5 or more years of experience managing a complex facility, working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and building management software, and computer proficiency. General carpentry skills are essential. This position requires a reliable personal vehicle, a clean driving record and a valid driver’s license. Additionally, the ability to bend and stand for long periods of time is needed. Candidates must be able lift at least 60 pounds and be comfortable with heights and the physical demands inherent with the nature of the work. This position requires a satisfactory background check.
