General Description:

The Assistant Coordinator of Museum Experience reports to and provides administrative support to the management team in supervising the day-to-day operation and all aspects of visitor touch points at Met Breuer.  The operation will consist of oversight of the visitor experience which includes general and group admissions, sales and promotion of membership, audio guides, concerts and lectures, and select merchandise, as well as, managing the main lobby experience including the coat check.  The primary responsibilities will include supervisory assistance on the floor, opening/closing procedures, performing reliefs for cashiers, facilitating during peak attendance periods, and training staff.  This position requires a flexible schedule and will include weekends and holidays.  Responsible for prioritizing the museum experience in all actions and decisions to give our visitors a world-class encounter with fine arts.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Champion the single service model, aligning the museum strategy with frontline operations in admission, membership, and retail by modeling and executing exemplary service.
  • Oversee the mechanics of the admissions operations, including reports, refunds, cash management, end of day reporting, and other functions.
  • Empower the team to create a memorable experience by enabling a collaborative, team-oriented environment through morale activities and regular team-building exercises.
  • Uphold performance management standards based on identified metrics and KPIs.
  • Monitor physical appearance of work stations and stock supplies, including brochures, daily information sheets, and other supplies required by staff to operate.
  • Identify and handle customer service issues, resolving matters promptly and effectively.
  • Develop and execute the staff schedule, incorporating all visitor touchpoints in the weekly rotations.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays and peak attendance periods.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Assist with operations in the lobby, including staff reliefs, voids, refunds, and other cash management matters.
  • Assist in scheduling staff to individual posts and create daily work schedule and breaks.
  • Manage crowd control outside and inside the museum with management staff.
  • Assist in managing current and future advance ticketing initiatives that impact Admissions and crowd control.
  • Assist Coordinators in all opening/closing procedures.
  • Collaborate with management on effective staff communications, operational needs and various joint departmental projects.

Job Requirements

Requirements and Qualifications:

Experience and Skills:

  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience in front of house operations.
  • Established track record of leading successful teams.
  • Established track record of exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and multi tasking skills required.
  • Ability to adapt to quick change in job responsibilities required and must have ability to be flexible.
  • Must have a flexible schedule in order to provide adequate supervisor coverage for Admissions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills required.

Knowledge and Education:

  • College degree preferred.
  • Art History and customer service backgrounds preferred.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office) and a familiarity with ticketing/POS systems, cash registers, and other office equipment.
  • Tessitura experience preferred.
