Job Description

The Denver Art Museum (DAM) is looking for an experienced museum educator to create engaging and dynamic installed experiences for visitors of all ages.   With a major reinstallation of the museum’s original Gio Ponti building to be completed by 2021 and a robust changing exhibition schedule, the DAM is seeking an Interpretive Specialist who will focus primarily on American, Western American and European painting and sculpture projects.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop interpretive and experience plans for exhibitions and permanent installations in collaboration with curatorial and exhibition staff.  Integrate audience insights into the planning process coordinating visitor evaluation (prototyping, visitor panels, etc.) as needed.
  • Produce engaging installed experiences and interpretive materials.  This can range from writing audio tours to developing immersive hands-on areas, from crafting in-gallery family games to producing video and digital content.
  • Consult with community, access, family, school and adult program staff to develop exhibition and collection related programming.  Develop training for docents and frontline staff to help engage public with exhibition content.

DAM’s Learning and Engagement Department has long been recognized as a leader in the museum field.  Under Director Christoph Heinrich’s leadership, the DAM’s commitment to exploring new and dynamic ways to engage broad audiences continues to grow.  DAM’s Vision 2021 includes a commitment to pulling back the curtain on the creative process of artists, to inspiring the creativity of our visitors, and to broadening DAM’s reach into the community. With significant reinstallations planned for the Painting and Sculpture collections and Petrie Institute of Western American Art and a commitment to integrating interactive education spaces and innovative programming throughout our galleries, this position offers enormous opportunity for the right candidate.
