Position Purpose

The Denver Art Museum is seeking a dynamic, energetic individual to join the Department of Learning and Engagement as our Latino Cultural Programs Coordinator.  Reporting to the Associate Director of Learning and Engagement, this individual will be responsible for contributing to the advancement of the Museum’s efforts to build, expand and sustain diverse and first – time audiences, and in particular support the Museum’s commitment to serving Denver’s growing Latino communities.  The successful candidate will coordinate on and off-site programming initiatives; liaison with community and artist partners, and coordinate evaluation that informs the development of relevant community based programs.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Coordinate First Free Saturday/CelebrARTE activities including coordinating Cuentos (storytelling) program and related artist workshops and performances.
  • Coordinate Artist in Residence/Artesano in Residence programs on-site and in community.
  • Build relationships with local Latino creatives e.g. visual artists, performers, writers to assist L&E program staff with integration of these artists and their art forms into ongoing program (Untitled, Studio, Family programs).
  • Coordinate translation materials for special exhibitions and installed family interpretation and advise on integrating inclusive language across programs.
  • Conduct research on key objects in the Spanish Colonial, Pre-Columbian, Western, and M&C collections in order to develop relevant Latino cultural programs.
  • Coordinate formal and informal evaluation of current and future programs, to ensure program relevance to a diverse Latino community.
  • Assist in the recruitment of bilingual/bicultural interns for the Learning and Engagement Department.
  • Serve as a spokesperson in the community as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

  • Strong commitment to creating effective, enjoyable art experiences at the museum for Latino visitors
  • Key relationships with a diverse group of Denver based artists and community organizations
  • Strong communication and writing skills in both English and Spanish
  • Ability to work with a variety of people on simultaneous projects
  • Ability to communicate well in a group and individual situations
  • Ability to be a strong team player
  • Strong organizational skills

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with informal learning settings
  • Fluent in Spanish, both verbal and written
  • Experience with developing community collaborations (Latino and community based organizations preferred).
  • Experience Knowledge of Latino/Hispanic/Chicano communities, organizations, artists, with a local emphasis preferred.
  • Highly organized, independent, and a self-starter
  • Comfortable working with all types of audiences who visit Museums
Education and Experience
  • BA required, MA preferred
  • Experience working with community organizations
  • Experience with evaluation
  • Experience with Program and Event coordination.
  • Experience working in a cultural institution, arts organization,  or museum setting
  • Experience developing interpretive programs related to Museum collections
  • Experience with Word Processing, Xcel, Scanning, Power point required.
