Development Officer, Research

Description:
Under the supervision of the Director, Research and Prospect Development, the Development Officer, Research plays an integral role in prospect identification, qualification, and the tracking of key relationships within the Museum’s constituencies. The Development Officer also collaborates actively with the fundraising staff regarding cultivation and solicitation strategies.

 

Primary responsibilities include: identify new prospective donors capable of major gifts, including the use of the Museum’s predictive modeling research tool; participate in prospect review and strategy meetings with Leadership Gift and Annual Programs staff; conduct prospect research through the use of on-line database tools, in-house records, and through communication with curatorial staff and key volunteers; produce comprehensive biographical, financial and philanthropic reports on prospective donors in support of staff and volunteer solicitation efforts; prepare biographical summary reports on nominees for consideration as new Trustees, Overseers or SMFA Governors; assist in the collection, maintenance and inventory of information, resources and records for the External Relations Division; participate in Museum-wide database and systems team, including in-process database conversion; aid in the recruitment and supervision of interns and serve as primary point person for annual Research Fellow; screen newspapers and periodicals for information on donors and prospects; stay current on trends and resources for development research.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, along with 3+ years of prospect research or relevant experience, including recent work which demonstrates strong analytical skills and strategic thinking; experience with relational databases, online research tools, database screenings, data mining, and report creation; strong written and communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail; ability to handle multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment while still producing quality work; strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented attitude; high level of respect for confidentiality and ethical practices.
