Job Summary:

The Museum Publications Coordinator is responsible for providing editorial support and coordination of exhibition and permanent collection catalogues. Oversees the editing of manuscripts and copy for brochures, labels, didactics, signage, educational and miscellaneous printed and electronic materials, according to required schedules and recognized standards. This position reports to the Associate Director/Curator of Exhibitions.

Essential Functions:

Coordinates edits and proofreads exhibition catalogues and other museum publications;

Verifies facts, dates, and statistics; reviews manuscripts and galley proofs using standard typesetter’s notations;

Coordinates tracking the elements, costs, and schedules of multiple projects while working closely with the Marketing department to track production and delivery of editorial materials; supports all activities and aspects of Meadows Museums’ publications.

Proofing all marketing materials, website, and printed educational materials, including work done by in-house and freelance editors, consult with editors, writers, and museum staff on editing projects, confers with authors regarding changes made to copy;

Develops and maintains guidelines for Meadows Museums’ house style in consultation with other museum departments.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree is required; preferably in English, Journalism, Communications or Art History

A minimum of three years professional experience is required.

Five years of editing experience in an art or museum context is preferred.

Scholarly publishing practices, Chicago Manual of Style guidelines and standard typesetters’ notations experience is required.

Fluency in Spanish, including reading, writing, and speaking is desirable.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills to effectively work in both academic and business setting.

Must possess the ability to think collaboratively, strategically and creatively.

Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team.

Must possess strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and constituents concurrently.

Candidate must have a working knowledge with Microsoft Office.

Occasional weekend and evening work is required.

Environmental and Physical Demands:

This position must have the ability to bend, stand, and reach above shoulders, push/pull, carry/lift 25 -50 lbs., and sit for long periods of time.
