Stage Tech/Performing Arts Production Internship

Stage Tech / Performing Arts Production : Interns work with the Production Coordinator, Master Carpenter, Master Electrician, House Sound Engineer, and house crew on all aspects of technical theatre, music, and films. This includes hands-on in all of the following areas – carpentry, lighting, sound, audio/visual, and running crew. You are not required to have a driver’s license.

Archive/Photography Internship

Archive / Photography: The intern will be managing MASS MoCA’s digital assets by sorting, indexing, and uploading materials of visual and performing arts. You will be documenting work in both MASS MoCA performing and visual arts, including artist interviews and work-in-progress rehearsals. You will be digitizing all of MASS MoCA’s archives, art fabrication and installation, and producing short videos for utilization on MASS MoCA’s website and other outlets. You will be using Final Cut Pro X, and will be working in cooperation with Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and Information Technology to manage MASS MoCA’s large video works, both video archival and new material, in our Digital Asset Management system – Resource Space.You are not required to have a driver’s license.

Visual Arts/Registrar Internship

Visual Arts/ Registrar:You will be working in a very busy Visual Arts department assisting in day-to-day operations. This includes research, maintenance of checklists and databases, correspondence with lenders and artists, and preparation of loan requests and loan forms. The position also includes registrar duties, from arranging shipping to documenting the works and filling out condition reports. Duties can include assistance in the procuring of exhibition materials, preparation and fabrication of artworks as necessary as well as the maintenance of artworks on view, installing A/V equipment and lighting for galleries, and photographing and assisting in installation.

Development Internship

Development: Intern will be working directly with the Manager of Foundations and Corporate Grants and the Membership Coordinator on all aspects of MASS MoCA’s fundraising activities, including research, grant-writing, direct mail, special events and database management. Interns will be required to work up to 50 hours per week, although some weeks could be longer. In an average week, you will spend two days working on foundations and corporate grants and two days on membership, with the remaining day alternating as workload requires. You are not required to have a driver’s license.

Visual Arts/Curatorial Internship

Visual Arts/ Curatorial: Intern supports the Visual Arts staff while managing the busy day-to-day activities of the department in all areas of the planning and execution of exhibitions. This includes research, maintenance of checklists and databases, correspondence with lenders and artists, preparation of loan requests and loan forms. The position also includes registrar duties: from arranging shipping to documenting the works and filling out condition reports. Duties can include assistance in the procuring of exhibition materials, preparation and fabrication of art works as necessary as well as the maintenance and care of art works on view, installing A/V equipment and lighting for galleries, photographing and filming objects and performances for documentation and gallery-viewing and leading public and private tours. Video editing is a plus.

Communications Internship

Communications: Interns work on all aspects of marketing MASS MoCA’s events and exhibitions including postering and flyering for upcoming performing arts events in surrounding areas, writing blogs, Facebook posts, and tweets, researching new forums for publicity, assisting with public outreach by manning booths and tabling at festivals and local colleges, writing press releases, assisting with bulk mailings, giving tours of the galleries, preparing press packets.

Performing Arts Administration Internship

Performing Arts Administration:Intern works directly with the Managing Director of Performing Arts in the coordination of current and future season planning, general office work, and maintaining and updating all performing arts files. The intern will alternate between the Assistant to the Managing Director and Company Manager with drafting of event programs, researching upcoming artists, assisting with artist services to arranging transportation and housing logistics of visiting artists, staff, and fellow interns.

MASS MoCA seeks full-time interns for various departments. Spend any season in the culturally rich, naturally beautiful Berkshires, while gaining invaluable professional experience in the arts. Paid interns are given $100/week stipend and free housing within a block of the complex (cable, internet, and utilities included). Internship dates: January 11th, 2016 – May 23rd, 2016.
