Description

The Curator of Education develops, implements, and manages the educational programs of the Roswell Museum and Art Center by directing an active studio class program; outreach to schools and community groups; the docent program; films, lectures, and special educational initiatives. This individual:

  • works under the general supervision of the Museum’s Executive Director and in collaboration with a curatorial team;
  • contributes to museum publications, publicity, and social media;
  • prepares and delivers lectures to various groups on topics related to the museum’s collections;
  • supervises paid contract instructors and volunteer docents;
  • promotes education as central to the Museum’s mission; and
  • works with the curatorial team to develop innovative interpretive strategies for museum exhibitions.

 

Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Art Education, Art History, Anthropology, Museum Studies, Studio Art or other discipline related to the goals of the Museum, preferably supplemented by graduate-level studies or degree and two years’ increasingly responsible museum education experience.

 

Knowledge:

Knowledge of art and history of the Southwest; understanding of the principles of museum education and AAM standards for education and interpretation; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing; and experience in conducting independent research related to museum education and subjects that support the interpretation of museum collections.
