Job Description

The Education Programs Manager serves as the administrative backbone of the education department. The program manager will be expected to maintain high quality and dynamic art programs and ensure that the Museum’s collections and special exhibitions act as a learning resource for all ages. The manager will work both within the galleries or the museum and also in a community context.

Position Objective:
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week Monday through Friday; with frequent evening or weekend hours. This non-exempt position reports to the Director of Education. Primary areas of responsibility include general administrative and clerical duties for the Museum Education Department, developing and managing education programs and community events and providing customer service to visitors/callers and program participants to the Bass Museum.

Requirements

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serving as primary public contact for the department
  • Handle registrations, scheduling and set up of all education programs including art camps and school and group tours.
  • This also includes entering into the museum’s Event Calendar and all invoices and billing
  • Manage in house program budgets.
  • Manage the on-boarding, scheduling and occasionally training of volunteers, including docents and interns.
  • Manage department records and databases and prepare reports on these records.
  • Work with Marketing department to market programs and events, as well as updating the website.
  • Liaise with schools, colleges and teachers to promote the use of the collections and activities of the museum in line with the national curriculum.
  • Work with Director of Education, education staff and marketing department to develop curriculum, learning strategies and educational resources that are in line with the ethos of the museum for visitors, schools, families and special interest groups.
  • Occasionally deliver talks, workshops and activities in partnership with other education staff, storytellers and teaching artists.
  • Represent and promote the museum on external educational committees in order to establish a network of useful and productive partnerships.
  • Provide general administrative support to the department
  • Other duties related to education department as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or associates degree in related field
  • A minimum of three years professional experience in a museum or art education setting
  • Understanding of curriculum standards and an ability to develop educational program which tie to Federal and State standards and to 21st century skills
  • High level of written and oral communication skills
  • Extremely strong computer skills including expertise in Microsoft Office Suite.
