Description

The Thoma Art Foundation is seeking an entrepreneurial and experienced full-time Executive Director to realizethe goals of the private family foundation (detailed on website) and provide leadership in the strategic planning, general management and financial oversight of our evolvingprograms in grants, education and outreach and loans of artwork from the collection. The Executive Director will also collaborate with the founders in our active art acquisition program. This position will be based in Chicago and will require some travel.

 

Candidates should be knowledgeable in and have a passion for art history including the fields of art in which we collect (described on website) This position does not require fund raising but the director will proactively interface with other organizations, museums and the public to raise awareness of the fields of art in which the foundation is active and the generous grant opportunities available to qualifying projects.

 

Candidates should embrace the power of the arts to inspire and engage all people, thrive in leadership roles, possess a track record of entrepreneurial activity, take pride in their strong work ethic and practice of going beyond the call of duty.

 

Requirements
Experience as a curator, exhibition organizer, published writer and bottom line management of an institution is highly recommended. The position requires day-to-day oversight of our five member team. Additional qualifications include:

– Advanced degree in art history, museum studies or a related field

– Prior management experience with an art foundation or museum

– Strong administrative and organization skills

– Excellent oral and written communicator

– Familiarity with financial metrics and legal compliance
