Description
The Director is responsible for overseeing the repair, maintenance, refurbishment and renovation of the Foundation’s buildings, walks, streets and parking lots in the most cost-efficient manner possible and in a manner consistent with the institution’s mission of preservation, assuring the buildings are safe, attractive and code compliant. To accomplish this, the Director works with managers and staff to observe, assess and evaluate building, walks, streets and parking lots conditions. The Director is responsible for the overall management of the various building and mechanical trades, building automation systems, materials services, and utilities paying particular attention to the operating and capital budgets and personnel matters to assure accomplishment of the mission by meeting annual goals.
This is a full time position; salary commensurate with candidate qualifications; work hours generally 40 hours weekly including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Requirements
Proven ability to successfully lead a team of people through clear definition of responsibilities and accountabilities; consistent communication; establishment of goals and development of plans to accomplish them; and timely and meaningful performance feedback.
Demonstrated success in a complex organization through collaboration with colleagues throughout the organization.
Knowledge ofall phases of physical plant operation, maintenance and repair, planning, scheduling, management and administration of the plant and appropriate safety practices.
Knowledge of managing projects from conceptual phase through start-up, controlling cost, schedule and resources.
Knowledge of and experience with federal, state and local safety, fire, construction, painting building code and ADA regulations.
Basic technical knowledge of mechanical and building trades.
Skill in budgeting and financial administration.
All of the above generally gained through a four-year degree in engineering, construction management, or related field plus ten years progressively responsible experience in multi-building or campus environments requiring management of complex maintenance and operational issues, budgets, personnel issues, training and goal setting.
Successful candidate must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record as measured against Colonial Williamsburg’s criteria.
Final candidates are to present in person to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Employment Office a valid driver’s license and an original MotorVehicle Record transcript (MVR). The MVR is to be no older than 30 days, issued by the same state as the driver’s license, and must cover the past seven years. New residents must obtain a Virginia drivers license by date of hire.
