About the Society

For the past 110 years, the Cambridge Historical Society has shared the incredible history of Cambridge with residents and visitors alike. Through touching fences, gazing up at grand facades, and huddling close to hear a guide over passing traffic, our walking tours have enlightened residents’ views of their neighborhoods. Our celebrated newsletter, shipped all over the country, connects former Cantabrigians to the community they still love. At our headquarters, the 1685 Hooper-Lee-Nichols House, we literally peel back the walls to show visitors the very fabric of our history. And researchers often hail our archives as the missing link between them and their research subject. Every day we connect the community to its past to inform its present.

Plans for the Future

In late 2014, the Society completed a strategic planning process intended to guide the organization through 2018. The ambitious plan builds off of years of successful programming and lays the groundwork for expanded operations. To best serve our community, each year the Society will frame its annual programming around one theme of pressing interest to Cantabrigians today. In 2016, we will answer the question, “What do you want to know about the history of housing in Cambridge?”
