Collections Manager

Fairfield Museum and History Center, Fairfield, CT

Schedule: 25 hrs/wk, flexible scheduling Term: 6-month position, with possibility of extension Responsibilities • Ensures the museum collections are handled, preserved, stored, and exhibited in a safe and prudent manner according to professional and institutional standards • Coordinates review, assessment, and move of objects from offsite storage facilities to consolidate storage at one location; organizes offsite storage facilities • Maintains records of accession, condition, and location of objects in the museum collection; oversees implementation of new registration database • Assists with the development and installation of museum exhibits, oversees loans and correspondence with lenders • Manages and coordinates necessary conservation assessments and treatments, and supervise contract conservators and technicians • Works with Collections Committee regarding possible deaccessions and manages documentation and disposal according to collections policy. Qualifications The successful candidate will bring: • Broad, hands-on experience in museum registration, storage, deaccessioning procedures and exhibitions • An energetic and collaborative working style • Highly developed skills in communication (verbal and written), organization and management • Ability to be entrepreneurial, innovative, adaptive and creative. • BA / BS required, MA preferred, with 3 or more years of registration or collections management experience • Excellent interpersonal skills and dedication to public service.
