Director of Retail

Description:
Located at street level and just outside our lobby entrance, the ICA store is an important feature – both a touchpoint and a revenue stream -that allows the ICA to further its mission. We’re looking for a Director of Retail who is passionate about the ICA’s mission and works tirelessly to create a store environment that reflects that mission and furthers it as well. He/she will select high-quality and visually appealing books and catalogues, jewelry, home goods and children’s toys in various price points. He/she will be familiar with the museum store markets and will be able to position the ICA uniquely within the world of medium sized contemporary art museum stores. Additional responsibilities include: Manage the store’s merchandise plan; manage record-keeping and inventory; track annual budget; coordinate with ICA departments to ensure public awareness and store products that reflect programming; supervise two full-time store employees and oversee their management of part-time store staff to ensure a high level of customer service and store sales; maintain store presence on ICA website; commission exhibiting artists’ items for sale with support and advice from curatorial staff; work with local artists to commission appropriate items for sale in the store; work with ICA curators and publishers to design, publish, ship and price high-quality exhibition catalogues for sale. Ability to operate office equipment and general mobility throughout the building required. Full-time schedule is Monday-Friday.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Art, Art History or equivalent experience. 5+ years in art museumretailing with significant experience as a store manager or senior buyer; 2+ years managing and motivating staff; familiarity with contemporary art and design trends; experience with internet sales and retail web site management; ability to monitor store’s profitability and adjust profit margins to achieve the institution’s net goal; familiarity with inventory management and purchasing operations; understanding of Point of Sale Systems; Proficiency with excel spreadsheets required for budgeting. Experience with publishing catalogues or book publishing. Ability to work a schedule that occasionally includes nights, weekends and holidays as needed. Superior customer service skills and an interest in building relationships with customers.
