Editor [Missouri History Museum, St Louis, MO]

Description

The Missouri History Museum is seeking a full-time Editor for its Publications Division.

Core task details include:

• Creating and adhering to Press schedule
• Editing book manuscripts: includes copyediting, formatting, working with authors on revisions, obtaining foreword and prefaces, and indexing
• Editing Gateway articles: includes copyediting, formatting, working with authors on revisions, determining content for departments, and helping with production management
• Acquiring photos and permissions for book projects and Gateway
• With Director, receiving and responding to author proposals and manuscript submissions; acquiring new book projects and Gateway articles
• Writing columns for Gateway and MHM blog
• Editing and/or proofreading MHM blog
• Sitting on exhibition teams and copyediting and proofreading labels for exhibitions
• Copyediting text for all divisions of MHS: includes Exhibit labels, Education newsletters, brochures, and web content
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• M.A. (or B.A, with 2 years minimum job experience) in History, English or American Studies.
• Must edit approximately 2–3 book manuscripts and Gateway magazine annually in accordance with Chicago Manual of Style
• Must track book projects through all stages of the publication process and submit reports on a regular basis on all book-related activities
• Must work well with authors, in-house staff, freelancers, interns
• Excellent writing skills are essential; must be able to write and edit text for a general readership as well as an academic audience
• Should be interested in overall activities of the Society and be willing to participate in committee work
• Must be Macintosh literate and willing to expand knowledge of Macintosh programs.
