Description

The Katonah Museum of Art in Westchester County seeks an Associate Director of Development who will join the Executive Director in stewarding all aspects of the organization’s financial support as it embarks on the implementation of a new strategic plan. A key staff position within a nimble, dynamic organization dedicated to visual arts and culture, the Associate Director of Development works with the Executive Director to strategize a yearly arc of fundraising; leads initiatives to identify and cultivate major gifts; oversees successful grant applications; manages top-level stakeholder relationships; and supervises several full time and contract-based employees. The successful candidate will bring excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and a keen ability to prioritize within a creative work environment. S/he must be comfortable in dynamic social situations, meeting people as both an ambassador and key member of the organization. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: – Lead all aspects of individual giving, from identifying, cultivating, and maintaining major donors to moving them appropriately towards solicitation and closure – Implement fundraising efforts for special projects and programs, including exhibitions, education, and outdoor performances – Reinvigorate high-end membership categories including Overseers and Creative Council – Research and connect with foundations, corporations, and government sources to expand base of support within and beyond region – Work with staff to cultivate private collectors and grow support for the arts through seasonal travel and educational opportunities – Supervise two full time Membership and Special Events staff members, providing direction and timely feedback; work closely with grants administrator to prioritize opportunities and ensure full completion of applications – Ensure that all Development Department efforts are in compliance with the NYPMIFA and the Museum’s mission, policy and procedures – Prepare and present reports to Executive Committee and Board on regular basis – Work some evening events as needed, including dinners and special programs

Requirements

– B.A. or higher degree from an accredited university or college – Minimum of 3-5 years of development management and/or fundraising experience – Experience and comfort working with donors, trustees, high net-worth individuals, and diverse constituencies – A track record of successfully closing major gifts and meeting contributed income goals in a competitive fundraising environment – Strong ability to think and plan strategically combined with tactical implementation skills and budgeting acumen – Ability to develop and mentor a close team while collaborating effectively with senior management to achieve broader institutional goals – Appreciation for art and culture – Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or comparable fundraising software – Flexibility and willingness to work evenings/weekends and to travel as needed – High-energy personality with sense of humor and openness APPLICATION: Interested candidates should submit the following materials in MS Word or PDF to dalexander@katonahmuseum.org – Cover letter explaining qualifications and interest in the position – Resume with salary history – Three (3) writing samples, particularly of successful solicitations – The names of three (3) professional references (individuals will not be contacted without prior approval) – All inquiries and materials will be confidential.
