Description

The Collection Project Manager/Registrar is a one year full time position subject to renewal, responsible for preparing and managing the Valentine’s holdings during a capital project renovation of the museum’s storage and work spaces. In addition to capital project duties, the Collection Project Manager/Registrar is responsible for maintaining and updating the repository of records (digital and analog) documenting the location and legal status of all objects owned, borrowed by, or otherwise in the custody of the museum.

During the multi-year capital project, the Collection Project Manager/Registrar will oversee the complete inventory, packing, movement, temporary storage, return, and rehousing of the museum’s 1.6 million object collection (Archives, General Collections and Costume & Textile Collection). Prior to this work, the Collection Project Manager/Registrar will work collaboratively with curatorial staff to support a preparatory collection refinement initiative; plan the renovation; create project work processes; and develop a project staffing planning.

Ultimate responsibility for the care of the collection, as well as the museum’s legal rights and liabilities regarding collection objects rests with the Project Manager/Registrar. The position is the central control point for the movement of all objects both on and offsite. The Project Manager/Registrar’s work is conducted in accordance with the museum’s official Collections Management Policy, adhering to the current Code of Ethics advised by the American Alliance of Museums.

Requirements

The Collection Project Manager/Registrar must be organized, detail-oriented and have the ability to manage multiple tasks. The Collection Project Manager/Registrar should possess an MA in history, art history or museum studies and should have a minimum of five years of museum registration or collections management experience.  The Collection Project Manager/Registrar will preferably have extensive experience using Re:discovery’s Proficio collections management database system.
