DESCRIPTION:
The MOCA Director provides dynamic leadership in administering, directing, planning, policymaking, and staffing the organization, operations, and events of the City’s Museum of Contemporary Art.  The Director works closely with the Board of Directors to refine, develop, and implement a progressive and innovative program for the Museum’s fundraising, exhibitions, collections management, educational activities, and community outreach.

This is highly responsible administrative work. The Director is responsible for acquisition, preservation, research, interpretation and presentation of all objects.  The incumbent directs the Museum’s operations, to include planning, organizing, development, education, public programming, finance, external communications, staffing and administration of all Museum of Contemporary Art activities. Supervision is exercised over subordinate professionals, technical, clerical, and volunteer staff.  Much of the work involves the promotion and creation of cultural activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Works in conjunction with the Board to develop strategic direction and establish initiatives to fulfill the mission of the Museum and increase local, statewide, national and international awareness and prominence;
Develops Museum policies for approval by the Museum Board and formulates procedures for carrying out such policies;
Manages and leads all staff including full-time, part-time, volunteers, and consultants;
Leads and participates in all fundraising and development activities, including grant writing and developing relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual
donors;
Serves as spokesperson and chief advocate for the Museum;
Establishes strong partnerships in the community;
Enhances the Museum’s public image to expand interest and support;
Directs the overall development of public relations and marketing initiatives;
Develops an effective communications plan to raise the profile of the Museum;
Manages, secures and maintains the property and facilities of the Museum, as well as the collections held in public trust;
Evaluates Museum operations, programs, and services, and assesses their effectiveness in meeting the needs of the public; and
Prepares or supervises the preparation of the annual budget.

Equipment Used/Job Location:  Operates a computer and printer, calculator, fax machine, copier, and similar office equipment, as well as equipment developed or advanced from future technology as required by the job.

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Art, Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field, plus considerable experience in museum operations or administration. Extensive experience in a museum, nonprofit organization, or business at the senior managerial level.

OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license within six (6) months of hire.
Ability to work in high stress environment with fixed date deadlines.
Advanced degree preferred.
