Description

The Saint Louis Art Museum is seeking a DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL GIVING. This position supervises the Grants Officer and the Individual Giving Officer. As management-level department head position, this person is a leader within the development and external affairs division and the Museum, principally charged with engaging corporate, foundation, government, and other third-party funding sources locally, nationally, and internationally, with a particular emphasis on serving as the institution’s chief representative to the St. Louis corporate funding community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of strategies to increase institutional support from corporations, foundations, third-party funding institutions and government granting agencies in support of the Museum’s priorities
  • Develop and implement a progressive sponsorship program to secure unrestricted operating support for the Museum in exchange for program-related marketing exposure and sponsor recognition, regularly reviewing and revising the program and rates to reflect market-competitive pricing and industry practices
  • Supervise the implementation of the Museum’s comprehensive grants program, which includes the identification, cultivation, solicitation and reporting functions with current and prospective institutional donors
  • Oversee implementation of the Museum’s corporate membership program, continually reviewing and revising recognition levels, benefit structure, premiums, etc., striving to balance the ultimate fund-raising effectiveness and inclusiveness of the program
  • In partnership with the Institutional Giving Officer, manage the ongoing activity of the Corporate Partners Committee and other fund-raising committees charged with securing corporate or institutional support on the Museum’s behalf
  • Lead the solicitation of corporate and institutional support for volunteer-led Museum fund-raising events, such as the biennial gala, Art in Bloom preview party, etc.
  • Manage government relations for the institution, closely monitoring policy developments at the federal, state and local level with potential impact on the Museum and proactively maintaining an institutional relationship for the Museum with key elected and appointed officials
  • Take responsibility for other projects as assigned, including leadership and service on cross-departmental management committees
Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 7 to 10 years development experience required, including supervisory experience. Candidate must have experience working with and managing fund raising volunteers, including having worked directly with board members and managed volunteer committees. Prior experience managing or working within the strategic and operational functions of a comprehensive institutional giving program is important, including sponsorship, corporate membership; corporate, foundation and government grants; and government relations. A strong attention to detail and excellent writing and presentation skills are also important, with an ability to communicate with and gain the respect of museum members, donors and trustees. Prior knowledge of the Raiser’s Edge software would be helpful.
