Position objective:  To provide expertise and support the Newark Museum’s finance and development departments with financial and grant analysis, reporting, compliance, policies and internal controls.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assures compliance of all internal Museum fiscal processes with applicable accounting, auditing and regulatory standards
  • Responsible for internal control compliance and development within the organization
  • Ability to author reports and procedure manual updates
  • Manage Foundation and Government grant compliance responsibilities, working closely with Development Department to prepare grant proposal budgets and expenditure reports
  • Provide regular internal budget updates and analysis of project and grant expenditures
  • Maintain the Museum’s SESA and SEFA reports
  • Responsible for payroll interface and uploads, including Labor tracking for grants and projects
  • Maintain Records and Analysis of allocation of temporarily restricted net assets and, including schedules for targeted release dates
  • Annual budgeting, reporting and analysis, including project budgets, working with organization management and project coordinators
  • Assist the accounting team with the month-end close and preparation of the financial package
  • Cash flow analysis and projections
  • Prepare or assist in preparation of financial statements; oversee the accuracy of financial records
  • Assist in preparation of annual 990
  • Provide administrative, accounting and other related services as requested by management


  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting best practices and procedures, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Previous experience with Federal and State grant funds and Unified Audit Requirements (previously A-133).
  • Strong background in Grant Accounting, including proficiency in new Uniform Grant Guidelines (UGG) and SESA and SEFA reporting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office suites
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Proficiency in Blackbaud’s Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge preferred
