Description

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of marketing strategies and initiatives with the goal of driving attendance and elevating the NHM and Tar Pits brands. The Marketing Manager should have an in-depth knowledge of the Los Angeles cultural, destination and entertainment market. This position requires developing strategic marketing plans which may include, but not limited to, promotions, advertising, digital initiatives, social media, email, direct mail and other collateral and offsite presentations and representations, as well as forming relationships with key partners to help maximize marketing efforts and budgets. In addition, the position also will be responsible for developing, overseeing and analyzing research to further understand the target market and their perceptions and attitudes about the Museums. The Marketing Manager will report to the Director of Marketing, while working closely with peers in Communications, Creative Services, Digital, Group Sales and Tourism Marketing and other departments.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic marketing and promotional plans to achieve attendance goals and financial objectives
  • Working with director of marketing, design research efforts in order to measure effectiveness of marketing efforts and optimize them
  • Develop an annual promotional marketing plan to drive traffic during key time periods
  • Cultivate and engage promotional marketing partners
  • Engage in social media and lead digital media efforts with regards to Museums’ social media influencer campaigns
  • Develop partnerships within local chambers of commerce, civic organizations, businesses, associations, destinations, etc. to promote the visibility of the Museums, and increase visitation
  • Act as liaison between Museum and outside agencies, including, but not limited to advertising, media buying, research and digital
  • Manage marketing production schedule and traffic all marketing materials between creative services and outside agencies or media partners
  • Develop work orders for all marketing materials
  • Write and develop copy for various communications channels, including, but not limited to advertising, marketing ephemera, email, social media, web
  • Working with director of marketing, develop onsite or digital research tools to help test or measure marketing efforts
  • Plan, coordinate and execute special events related to marketing initiatives
  • Initiate and follow up on leads
  • Exercise superior judgment in tone and quality of communications with our audience
  • Attend conferences, trade shows, community events and industry meetings to develop relationships with public, partners and peers
Requirements

The Marketing Manager must be highly organized, outgoing, collaborative, strategic, and independent. A self-starter who is able to multi-task within a busy work environment, must have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), proven success in marketing to specific target audiences, and strong relationship building skills.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a marketing role, preferably in an agency environment or in the entertainment, digital or destination markets
  • In-depth knowledge of the Los Angeles cultural and leisure market
  • In-depth knowledge of digital and social media platforms
  • Experience working with and managing relationships with outside agencies
  • Strong budget management skills
  • Ability to market to audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to measure and report on effectiveness of all marketing efforts; Google Analytics experience helpful, but not required
  • Demonstrable history of achieving or exceeding professional goals
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written, verbal and presentation format, and build and maintain relationships
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong event management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and ensure timely action
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work within a very fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities
  • Experience managing the creative process of development of marketing materials
  • Excellent computer skills. Above average aptitude with Office suite: Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, creative thinker with a passion for developing relationships
  • Willingness to work as a team member, including supporting events execution, working evenings, holidays and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel locally and out of town as needed
