Assistant Curator

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a self-motivated, detail-oriented, multitasking team member with superior research, writing, and communications skills for the position of Assistant Curator. This position reports to the Chief Curator and works as a member of the curatorial team. This is a full-time position with benefits.


Responsibilities:

  • Assists in identification, development, and selection of exhibitions, including originating exhibition concepts and preparing exhibition proposals.
  • Assists in management of traveling exhibitions.
  • Assists in preparation of budgets and grants.
  • Researches exhibition topics and contributes to exhibition objectives, and written materials, including editing of exhibition didactics.
  • Works collaboratively to  support smooth coordination of exhibition planning and implementation with all appropriate parties, including exhibition designer, production staff, education staff, store, operations, and registrars.
  • Works collaboratively with other Skirball departments to assist and support exhibition fundraising, programming and publicity.

Qualifications:

  • MA in Humanities, History, Art History, Anthropology, Museum Studies, or related field.
  • Previous museum work experience with changing exhibits.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop productive relationships across an organization.
  • Demonstrated strength in organizational skills and attention to detail, deadlines, and follow-through.
  • A keen appreciation and understanding of the Skirball Cultural Center mission and philosophy.
