Project Assistant (Curatorial)

Description:
Battleship Cove, the world’s largest collection of historic United States naval ships, is seeking a Project Assistant on a full-time temporary basis. Reporting to the Director of Education, the successful candidate will work closely with the Collections Department and project designers to provide support for the implementation of the museum’s reinterpretation project from April 2016 to April 2017. The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing primary and secondary research, including searching for and obtaining graphics, objects and library materials needed for interpretive purposes
  • Retrieving, purchasing and delivering project-related items from both the museum’s collection and outside collections
  • Serving as a liaison, as necessary, between Battleship Cove staff and outside consultants or contractors
  • Reviewing the museum’s oral history collection for relevant information and transcribing, as necessary
  • Digitizing and organizing photographs and documents for use in the project
  • Processing object loans and photograph rights and reproduction requests
  • Proofreading and commenting on signs, labels and other interpretive content
  • Cataloging collection items, as necessary
Qualifications:

  • B.A. in museum studies, history, library/information science or a related field
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Historical research skills
  • Familiarity with Past Perfect software preferred
