Marketing and Poetry Festival Internship

Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, CT is accepting applications for several unpaid summer Marketing Department internship opportunities, including assistance with the 2016 Sunken Garden Poetry Festival, and occasionally other departments. Internships are available both on weekdays and some weekends. Duties including but not limited to: Public and media relations; maintain and update media list; regularly submit event information to database of on-line listings; community distribution of rack cards, posters, and other printed promotional materials; attend occasional museum events and take photos for publicity, assist staff with various duties; conduct research of promotional activities by other museums and institutions, providing periodic reports; and identify new promotional opportunities, particularly on social media. Requirements for position: Working toward a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field; team player with exceptional interpersonal skills and a “can do” attitude; outstanding verbal, written communication and organizational skills; detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task with a high level of accuracy; ability to handle confidential information appropriately; proficient in Microsoft Office and on social media; and willingness to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend events. Preferred background for candidates, in addition to the above requirements: Some work or internship experience; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs or QuarkXPress; access to a vehicle for off-site assignments.
