Curatorial Assistant of the Whitney Western Art Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming

The Whitney Western Art Museum is seeking candidates for a Curatorial Assistant. This individual will provide support to the Scarlett Curator of Western American Art and other museum staff as required, in regard to current and future exhibitions, publications, and educational and outreach activities. Other duties include artwork research, updating files and records, monitoring budgets, coordinating loans and acquisitions, organizing meetings, responding to inquiries, ordering and overseeing regular gallery maintenance, and assisting with fundraising. The Curatorial Assistant will also undertake special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Requirements for the position include strong knowledge of or interest in American art and/or western American history, excellent verbal and written communication skills, uncompromising attention to detail, and the ability to work on multiple projects at once. A Bachelor’s degree is required with a strong preference for a Master’s degree in Art History or related field. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, will be an enthusiastic team player, and will be able to stand or walk for much of the day and lift at least 20 pounds. Two years of museum work experience or a comparable setting is required. In addition, knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and good keyboarding skills are required, as are previous exposure to social media and digital outreach. Facility with collections databases is preferred.
