SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Accounting and Treasury manages a team to provide day to day accounting activity for the Museum. The role is responsible for monthly close, accounts payable and all treasury management functions. The position requires coordination with an outsourced accounting service provider to maximize efficient use of resources.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• The Director of Accounting and Treasury is responsible for executing the day to day accounting functions and serves as the departmental “go to” person for the museum staff on accounting matters in order to facilitate accurate timely monthly reporting and minimal post close adjustments.

• Responsible for the monthly close which includes working with outside vendor and improving current processes and systems to streamline accounting procedures.

• Ensures grants, contracts and agreements receive an appropriate level of  review during submission phase and monitors compliance during the execution phase to include forensic accounting where needed in order to ensure both parties compliance with financial terms

• Responsible for maintaining and improving internal controls that are required for a clean opinion on the annual financial audit.

• Responsible for accounts payable staff that processes and code all expenses including procurement card for all Museum staff.

Requirements

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise accounting staff members and work with the outsourced accounting services firm. Functional responsibilities include; Monthly Close, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Audit, Grant Administration, Ticket Database, Restricted Fund Management, Grant Data, External Surveys, Financial Analysis and Special Projects as assigned.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.  CPA designation preferred

• Demonstrates ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

• Work experience in accounting and experience with nonprofit accounting required.

• Possesses strong problem solving skills and the ability to make recommendations to the CFO.

• Possesses better than average working knowledge of Excel, Abila MIP experience is a plus.

• Supervisory experience required.

• Ability to work well in a dynamic and ever changing environment.
