Communications Specialist

The Peabody Essex Museum is seeking a creative, highly talented Communications Specialist to join our Marketing and Communications team. Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the successful candidate will be responsible fordeveloping and implementing communications strategies that raise the profile of PEM locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. This position supports short- and long-term strategic planning and is responsible for the day-to-day execution of communications-related activities. Working in concert with the Director of Communications, the Communications Specialist designs and executes public relations and digital media campaigns to support the museum’s exhibitions, programs, resources and staff. S/he will leverage the museum’s brand, stories and thought leadership through creative cross-platform strategies. Duties include designing public relations outreach campaigns that integrate traditional PR practice with emerging communications content strategies; cultivating relationships with key influencers in the digital media community that extend the reach of the museum’s messaging locally and globally; establishing an effective content production and distribution workflow and building, fostering and maintaining social media channels in collaboration with the museum’s social media team.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Some course work in art history and/or fine arts or equivalent experience required.Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous media relations and content development experience required; experience working within a museum or other non-profit arts organization preferred. Should be an excellent writer and communicator who possesses initiative, imagination, stamina, a sense of humor and a love of art and culture. This is a hands-on role that requires creativity, collaboration and a nimble work style. Must revel working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks. Must be digitally progressive, fluent in social media and have a track record of capitalizing on an ever-evolving media landscape
