Manager of Development, Museum of Contemporary Photography

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Manager of Development is responsible for directing and implementing all earned and contributed revenue strategies for the Museum. This includes directing all government, corporate and foundation grants; MoCP fundraising events; online and onsite shop; limited edition prints; identifying, engaging, and soliciting prospective individual and institutional donors; and serves as a MoCP liaison with several Museum membership programs, Councils and boards.
 
This position serves as a key member of the strategic planning team for the MoCP, and is expected to bring a commensurately high level of professionalism in all their job duties and activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

DEVELOPMENT
  • Directs and implements all fundraising strategies to meet the Museum’s financial goals with consultation with the Executive Director and Curator and Associate Director.
  • Directs all MoCP fundraising special events including the DARKROOM Annual Benefit Auction and FIRST LOOK fine print release party with the Executive Director and Curator and Associate Director and Head of Operations.
  • Solicits all individual giving, including collecting annual contributions of Advisory Board and Museum Council members, as well as the annual fund and major gifts with the Executive Director and Curator and Associate Director.
  • Responsible for one-on-one meetings with individual prospects.
  • Directs membership program known as Friends of the MoCP including solicitation, renewal, and development of brochures and materials with the Executive Director and Curator and Associate Director.
  • Researches and solicits foundation and government grants and corporate sponsorships including the maintenance of correspondence, deadlines and relationships.
  • Directs all earned income revenues, such as the Fine Print Program and publications.
  • Identifies, engages and solicits prospective individual and institutional donors.
  • Key member of the strategic planning team to shape vision and long-term strategic goals for the museum
  • Utilizes expertise of curators and educators when identifying and soliciting funding from all individuals and organizations.
  • Museum liaison with Museum Auxiliary Council.
  • Works with Executive Director to cultivate potential individual donors and Museum Advisory Board, including replacement of members.
 
SUPERVISORY
  • Supervises the Audience Development Fellow who assists with membership, Fine Print Program, and social-media correspondence.
  • Supervises undergraduate and graduate students for special events and other miscellaneous development activities.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • This position requires a Master’s degree in Art, Art History and/or Art Administration.
  • Knowledge of Contemporary Art/Photography, a plus.
  • Must have five years of successful development experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills including leadership, persistence, the ability to manage a multitude of assignments concurrently, manage budgets and deadlines, and establish priorities.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the confidence to be a thoughtful, authentic listener, and an assertive advocate.
  • Ability to interface comfortable and effectively with a full range of partners including, board members, staff, artists, community partners, and funders.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team of professionals.
  • Ability to think and solve problems strategically and creatively, advancing the mission of the organization.
