AAMLV seeks a self-directed individual, with a proven track record of stewarding long-term relationships and securing financial resources for an organization to be our full-time Director of Individual Giving. The primary role of the Director of Individual Giving is to lead, review and move forward the strategy to grow income through individual giving. H/She will identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts from new individual donors and nurture and encourage existing individual donors. He/she will work closely with the Museum senior staff and Trustees to create and fulfill the donor experience, from cultivation of donors to solicitation and stewardship. The successful candidate will have demonstrated fundraising success and high-level organizational skills to manage complex projects and programs. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a fundraising professional to work within a team environment toward collective goals while fulfilling a primary role in the organization’s individual giving strategy. The Director of Individual Giving will report to the CEO.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide analysis and strategy to determine which perspective donors are best aligned with supporting the Museum; develop and execute plans to engage and monitor them through face-to-face visits, special appeals and campaigns, events, and planned giving;
  • Manage a portfolio of individual donors and lead all stages of engagement including: identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual donors that will support AAMLV.
  • Collaborate with Trustees on rating, solicitation and stewardship strategies;
  • Manage and develop the Museum’s Friends membership program and the Annual Fund appeal.
  • Liaison with, staff, and ensure the success of the Museum’s Kress Society (upper category membership)
  • Communicate persuasively through personal visits, written proposals, appeal letters, and report the important case for giving to the Museum;
  • Responsible for a continuing program of donor acknowledgement process including appreciation and recognition to ensure a high quality donor experience;
  • Oversee planned giving including bequests and gift annuities;
  • Participate in planning special cultivation and fundraising events;
  • Provide regular reports to the Trustees, management, and staff on the success of fundraising from individual donors;
  • Work with, train, and coach support staff to effectively track prospects and solicitations;
  • Work effectively with diverse constituencies within the organization and externally including board members, staff and volunteers;
  • Represent the Museum at workplace events and other speaking engagements;
  • In concert with the Museum’s CFO, prepare financial progress reports and budgets for the CEO and the Development Committee;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Bachelor’s degree;

Knowledge and understanding of the funding community;

  • A willingness and excitement to work with the Development and Senior Management Team;
  • Strong sales orientation, proven ability to prospect as well as close funding opportunities;
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with an ability to use data to make decisions and to translate strategy to action;
  • Four+ years of successful fundraising experience in major and individual gifts;
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, supported by ability to use technological tools;
  • Must be able to represent AAMLV independently to potential donors and make compelling asks;
  • Strong facility with Raiser’s Edge – and Microsoft Office;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team and with great energy and persistence. Experience working with diverse constituencies;
  • Proven organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and produce high quality results quickly and on time;
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Have a commitment to the role of the arts as integral to critical thinking, social development, economic prosperity, and educational philosophy.
  • Access to transportation to visit with donors and prospects. Available for occasional work events on weekends and evenings.

About Allentown Art Museum

The Allentown Art Museum was founded in 1934 and is located in downtown Allentown, Pennsylvania. The art museum serves a broad and diverse community of the Lehigh Valley and is conveniently situated within an hour of Philadelphia and two hours from New York City. While serving as a regional art and educational resource, it is also recognized both nationally and internationally for its outstanding permanent collection, which includes a sizeable and important collection of Dutch, Flemish German and Italian Renaissance and Baroque art, donated by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. The collections also include important holdings of 19th and 20th century American art, decorative art, prints, drawings, and photographs; an extensive textile and costume collection that covers five continents and fifteen celebrations; a unique collection of south Indian art, and the original Library room from the Francis W.
