Description

When LA’s Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens searched for talent to replace their long-time volunteer manager, the road led them to Hillwood and we couldn’t be more flattered.  Their good fortune can be yours as well.  This has opened the door for someone ready to make their mark leading and nurturing a renowned volunteer and docent program.

Our 250 strong and growing volunteer corps plays a vital role in advancing our mission of delighting and engaging visitors with an experience inspired by the life of founder Marjorie Post and her passion for excellence, gracious hospitality, art, history, and gardens.    Sure, the Volunteer Manager is responsible for assuring the effective management and administration of the program including scheduling utilizing the Volgistics software platform, but there is so much more to achieving success in this highly visible role.

Creating an environment where volunteers can grow, are personally fulfilled, understand how they contribute and feel valued for their participation in the work we do is paramount.   The effective deployment of volunteer resources across all departments and functions is vital to achieving our goals and executing our strategic objective of deepening Hillwood’s engagement with visitors, members, donors and colleagues.   If you’re ready for such challenges, we’d love to hear from you.

Requirements

We seek someone intellectually playful, imaginative and innovative who will embrace our long history of volunteer service as something to build upon rather than something that constrains or discourages new ideas or methods.   You will consider the diversity of historic, intricate galleries, cultivated landscapes and intimate exhibition spaces as something to be conquered not an impediment.   An appreciation for the place of museums in the community and in society will underpin your work.
Your educational attainment will include a B.A. in the arts or relevant discipline with post graduate work in museum studies preferred.   You will have demonstrated your capabilities through 5+ years of experience in non-profit volunteer management, preferably in a museum setting.     Experience in facilitation or teaching in informal or formal settings, customer service, and running a docent program will enhance your candidacy for this position.
We are a progressive, equal opportunity employer and all candidates are encouraged to apply.   So, come work “Where Fabulous Lives!”    You will find detailed information related to responsibilities and requirements along with instructions on how to submit your cover letter and resume under the “Jobs & volunteering” tab on our website:  www.hillwoodmuseum.org.   Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis, and a hiring decision will be made as soon as the appropriate candidate is identified.
