Description

The curator of South Asia will be expected to research, catalogue and publish the MIA collections from South Asia, and contribute to display and exhibition development, according to the latest scientific research and international museum practice.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Visiting academic and scholars; MIA Colleagues.
• To follow correct policies and procedures.
• To work as part of collections division and provide accurate information to MIA staff
• Assist with day to day documentation and research of the collection.
• Responsible for curatorial matters relating to South Asia
• Contribute to (temporary and permanent) display and exhibition development
• Handle public quires, Educational and Communication division requests, and scholarly requests.
• Must be able to work within a team, be flexible and self-motivated, and liaise with museum conservators, registrars and other colleagues on regular basis.
• Other activities as requested by Head of Curatorial and Research.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• PhD in Islamic Art History, History or Archaeology (ABD Acceptable)
• A minimum of 8 years of related experience
• Fluent English
• Proficiency in Arabic, Persian and/or Turkish
• Proficiency in additional European and Asian research languages
• A high level of subject-specific expertise
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong research abilities and excellent organization
• Publication and lecturing experience
• Ability to work individually and as part of a team
• Professional manner and friendly attitude
• Interested in professional development
• Familiarity with object handling
• Documentation and database experience
• A good network of specialised contacts
• Experience of living in the Middle East
