Description:
BostonAPP/Lab (www.bostonapp.org), a new non-profit focusing on incubating new collaborations supporting arts in Greater Boston’s public places, is prototyping a new project — the ArtsCommons (Facebook.com/ArtsCommons) — in Boston’s Hyde Square neighborhood. With the ultimate goal of providing repurposed, reimagined steel shipping containers as “black boxes” for performances and installations, the prototype (re-using found and discarded materials) is testing core concepts of design as well as programming. We’re seeking an individual to document this phase, as well work with artists, neighborhood groups, merchants, residents, and others in bringing the project to life. One upcoming, and important, date is July 9, when, as part of JP PorchFest, the ArtsCommons will be offering the work of two of the Boston Artists-in-Residence as well as another group. By mid-July we hope to complete a Kickstarter video — for which some footage has been shot — that will be as kick-ass as the project itself, and for which we need serious help. Finally, you can read more about the project in this recent Improper Bostonian article, where is was identified as one of “10 Bright Ideas Changing Boston.”
