Project Summary:   The program intern will provide overall administrative support for special events throughout the fall and winter terms that use hands-on art projects and performances to make history programs vibrant and edgy.

FALL 2016:

  • Research, prep, make craft samples, assist with implementation for Grid Iron Glory Family Day (Sept. 24) Day of the Dead family day (October 23), American Indian Family Day (Dec. 10)
  • Assist with implementation (schedule permitting) of Winter Music choir series on Saturdays 1 and 3 pm (Nov. 26, Dec. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31)

Student Responsibilities:  

  • Create sample craft projects for display
  • Support program staff with preparations for upcoming events; this may include preparing materials, set up and take down, engaging museum visitors with craft projects, etc.
  • Provide support for other education staff upon request

Knowledge intern is expected to gain:

  • Knowledge of what it takes to create, implement and design museum programs targeting family audiences.
  • Gain program experience and learn behind-the-scene planning and implementation process involved with public program events.
  • Learn how the education department uses hands-on art activities to make connections with
Student Qualifications:  College junior or senior. Student with flexible schedule who loves arts and crafts, theatre and music.   Student must be artistically inclined, have excellent organization and people skills, and have good design sense with the ability to make props and samples for family day art projects.  Previous experience working with kids is a plus.  Student must be flexible and willing to be on call to support with planning and preparing for upcoming events. Preference will be given to applicants with a flexible schedule and willingness to be on an on-call basis.

Ideal degrees:   Fine arts, theatre, art history, history, education, or related field
