This position will set the Museum’s financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in, and driver of, the organization’s overall strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the business, finances, accounting and payroll of the organization.
  • Managing and overseeing all accounting functions, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, state and federal taxes
  • Preparation of the annual budget and monthly analysis; working closely with the President/CEO and Department Vice Presidents
  • Reporting and presentation of the budget to the Board of Directors; working closely with the Finance Committee throughout the year
  • Participating in the strategic planning process
  • Capital expenditure budgeting and tracking
  • Managing cash flow and forecasting
  • Financial analysis
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, annual reports
  • Responsible for daily cash management operations
  • Responsible for hiring, training, supervising Accounting/Finance staff members
  • Developing and implementing appropriate policies and procedures
  • Grants management and reporting
  • In conjunction with executive management, tracking and reconciling restricted/non-restricted classifications of funds and donations.
  • Contract administration
  • Risk management
  • Responsible for 403(b) plan administration

MUST HAVE CRITICAL HIRING REQUIREMENTS:

  • An effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills.
  • Strong commitment to developing team members.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the social sector with a passion for the organization’s mission is essential.
  • Working knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Working knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation MBA and/or CPA preferred
  • A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a for-profit or a not-for-profit

SKILLS/ABILITIES/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to maintain knowledge of current federal and state policies and directives, and accounting standards.
  • Ability to analyze financial details in order to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills; proficient in accounting, spreadsheet and word processing programs, preferably Solomon, Excel and Word
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • MOSI is open 363-365 days a year. Employee may be required to work some special events which may fall on holidays, evenings, and/or weekends.
