Responsible for overall care, documentation, acquisitions and exhibitions of City of Lubbock museum collections in accordance with established museum management practices. Researches, organizes and implements a variety of World War II and aviation history programs at City museum. Assists Museums Manager with fundraising and grants management for exhibitions and other educational programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain the inventory records on municipal World War II Glider Pilot artifacts and history collections in accordance with established museum management principles and practices;
  • Coordinate and implement exhibitions, special events and educational programs related to aviation history and World War II at the Silent Wings Museum; Coordinate installation/deinstallation of exhibitions, inventories, condition reports, packing/unpacking of artifacts and other acquisitions or loaned items;
  • Perform a variety of curatorial administrative duties associated with city-wide policies and procedures such as personnel, accounting, purchasing, budgeting and safety;
  • Research, prepare, monitor and evaluate grants and fundraising strategies for programs in history, science and aviation
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise part-time assistant coordinators;
  • Coordinate the organization and development of library and archival research materials located in Silent Wings Museum;
  • Oversee program for responding to public research requests on topics related to the mission of the Silent Wings Museum;
  • Make presentations and promote the department and events through media appearances and community groups;
  • Manage special projects for City of Lubbock museums;
  • Perform related duties as directed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies or related field with an additional one year experience in a museum or closely related field and experience in grant writing; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Must have at least one year experience with collections care and preservation
Master’s degree in Museum Studies and/or History is preferred
Exhibition experience preferred

  • Effectively promote City of Lubbock museums and their programs.
