The Director of Business Development (DBD) is responsible for leading the growth of museum-wide sales initiatives and developing new business sales opportunities.   This position’s primary goal is to promote MOSI as a premier travel destination in order to increase out-of-market and travel related revenues.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement and manage MOSI’s business development plan and provide input into strategic business growth and improvement decisions.
  • Pro-actively identify new and different business opportunities to provide increased sales
  • Develop strategies and partnerships to drive out-of-market visitor traffic, specifically targeting the travel and hospitality industry.
  • Develop and implement a tourism marketing plan for the Bay area working closely with hotels/motels, restaurants, wineries, county attractions, etc.
  • Promote and expand overall MOSI awareness as a premier destination with city tourism publications and organizations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with all local tourism service providers in the Tampa Bay area including but not limited to CityPass, hoteliers, restaurateurs, AAA, ticket vendors and attractions.
  • Manage Trio relationship and ensure exceptional representation of MOSI’s brand.
  • Develop tourism content for MOSI website and publications and manage the distribution of all tourism related publications and collateral.
  • Monitor city tourism statistics, projects and trends; track, analyze and measure return on investment of overall visitor sales.
  • Plan new research-based advertising strategies for current and subsequent years that will increase leisure travel market share.
  • Develop relationships with national, international and regional tourism based publications and writers, tours operators and travel agents.
  • Lead a sales team dedicated to maximizing all sales opportunities, proactively creating new opportunities and achieving sales targets.
  • Brief and train the Business Development team on all opportunities and identify sales training requirements for the team
  • Develop and manage relationships with industry partners and work with them on business growth opportunities beneficial to all parties.
  • Undertake a commission review on an annual basis to ensure sales reflect accurate commission levels
  • Maintain up to date with all industry trends, issues and news
  • Work with key MOSI staff to ensure all business opportunities are managed professionally and cross selling opportunities are maximized
  • Work closely with MOSI marketing department to ensure all sales opportunities are maximized with product partners and through marketing initiatives
  • Provide strong MOSI representation at all times

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as a Business Development Manager in the tourism/travel industry preferred
  • High level contract negotiation experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of Marketing and/or product development experience required
